Andalucia is famous for its great natural beauty, beautiful historic cities and structures and the friendly "pueblos blancos", that is, "white towns" which are full of houses painted white and narrow streets. Andalucia has a lot to offer and there is a lot to see, but the excursions will only be realized upon  sufficient number of participants.

Sevilla is the capital of Andalucia and one of the most beautiful, oldest and important cultural city of Spain. Sevilla, which is where the opera Carmen takes place, is an important link in the history and culture of Spain. There you can find many of the most famous buildings of the country like the Cathedral, La Giralda which is the third biggest church in the world. The Almohad-mosque which is the oldest part of the church was built in 13th Century. There is also the Golden tower, the Arab palace, Cartuja monastery and the bullfighting ring Maestranza as well as buildings built for t he World Exhibition in 1929. As well as cultural landmarks Seville also boasts a colourful and lively culture, many shops, great restaurants and street life. The oldest section of Sevilla, Santa Cruz is from the time of the Moors as can be seen. There are narrow and shadowy pedestrian streets, small squares and coffee houses. The Triana-section on the other side of Guadalquivir is a popular neighbourhood with many restaurants where you can enjoy Spanish cuisine and watch the colourful life on the streets of Sevilla.

Granada is probably the best known and most visited city of Spain. Granada was the capital of Alandlus or Andalucia in Moorish times. The Arabian caliphs ruled Granada for almost 800 years or until the Fifteenth century. The Arabas were famed for their great architecture as the palace Alahambra attests but it is the town's greatest tourist attraction. The gardens around the palace are filled with fountains, tree avenues and patios and remind the guests of 1001 Nights. Granada is on Unesco's list of cultural heritage. It is surrounded by a great mountain range, la Sierra Nevada and many call it on of the most beautiful places in the world. In the mountain Sacromonte you can find caves where the gypsies lived for centuries and in them you can find flamenco shows.

Cordóba is one of the oldest town in Europe. There you can find the mosque Aljama from the eighth century which is one of the premier buildings of the Moors in the western world.

The White Towns; Arcos de la Frontera, Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz.
Andalucia is known for "los pueblos blancos", cities and towns with houses painted white, narrow streets, flowers in the windows and then especially within the old city walls. The influence of the Moors through the ages is distinctive and can be seen in the architecture, cuisine and in the character of the people.

Arcos de la Frontera is one of those towns, an incredibly fun town which is built on a steep hill where the castle walls and the cliffs become one and reach all the way down into the Guadalete-valley.

Cádiz
is not only one of the oldest cities of Western Europe, it is also the southernmost city of the continent. Cádiz was founded by the Phoenicians in 1100 before Christ. The city was occupied by the Carthagenians, Romans, Visigoths and Muslims and played a major part in the discovery of America as the ships of Columbus and other explorers sailed from there. It also played a big part as a link between Europe and the New World. Many have pointed out the similarities between Cádiz and la Habana in Cuba.

Jerez de la Frontera is probably best known for its breweries, wine cellars and flamenco. There are the origins of the famous Sherry or Jerez and there is the famous royal horse school of Andalucia. There are fabulous shows held where the horses show their tricks and move in beat with the flamenco-music. The horse festival in april/mayl is a unique happening which no one should miss.

Tangier in Marocco is only 14 kilometers from Tarifa. Tarifa is often called the gateway to Africa. Tangier is neither European nor African or even Moroccoan; it is a spiced up mix of these three cultures and that is what makes it interesting. The golden age of Tangier was around 1950, although  before that time famous persons; writers, artists and politicians used to enjoy their stay at the city and its surrounings. Winston Churchill, Oscar Wilde, Cecil Beaton and William Burroughs could be found amongst others.

Examples of interesting places in Tangier are el zoco or the market in the heart of the city and la Kasbah which is an area inside the old city walls. Inside the walls is a big garden leading to the Makhezen Dar el, the palace of the Sultan from the eighteenth century. Today it has been made into a museum. The palace is full of beautifully carved timber ceilings and surrounded by beautiful gardens. It is on one of the highest points of Tangier where you can look over the Straits of Gibraltar, all the way to the south coast of Spain.
